Annapurna Singh's Journey to UPSC CSE Success
Annapurna Singh, a native of Patna, Bihar, had always dreamed of clearing the UPSC Civil Services Examination. After graduating in Electronics and Communication Engineering from PESIT, Bengaluru, she worked as a Semiconductor Engineer for 3 years at Intel. However, her passion for public service never faded, and she decided to take on the challenge of the UPSC CSE.
Annapurna's Preparation Journey
Annapurna's journey to success was not without its challenges. She initially gave her UPSC attempts along with her job, which she found difficult to balance. After realizing that she would not be able to manage the increased workload at Intel and her preparation, she made the difficult decision to resign from her job.
Despite the initial setbacks, Annapurna remained determined and continued her preparation. She faced another disappointment when she did not find her name in the final PDF of the 2022 UPSC CSE results, just days before the Prelims exam. However, Annapurna refused to give up and persevered.
Preparing with a Job

Prelims Preparation

She also extensively used previous year question papers (PYQs) and their analysis, with the help of her peers and online resources. Maintaining a timetable and practicing tests were crucial for her preparation.
Mains Preparation
For the Mains examination, Annapurna followed a comprehensive strategy that included studying the syllabus, analyzing PYQs, and creating detailed plans. She relied on online materials, toppers' notes, and her own test analysis to enhance her content knowledge. Practicing answer writing and using summary sheets for quick revision were also part of her Mains preparation.
Optional Subject: Geography
Annapurna chose Geography as her optional subject, and she consistently scored well in this paper. She utilized basic books, toppers' copies, and online resources to build a strong foundation in the subject. Annapurna also took online classes and benefited from the help of her seniors in discussing PYQs.
Interview Preparation
Annapurna understood the importance of the Interview stage and dedicated extra effort to it. Her preparation included meticulous attention to the Detailed Application Form (DAF), newspaper notes, one-on-one sessions, and mock interviews. She emphasizes the value of note-making in this stage, as it helps to better link the content with depth.
Mental Health During Preparation
Annapurna acknowledges the immense stress and anxiety that come with the UPSC CSE preparation. She advises aspiring candidates to accept the problem and seek support from their loved ones, as well as professionals if needed. Annapurna found solace in activities like spending time in nature, listening to music, and practicing self-kindness.
